Earlier this month, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota was honored with the Way Paver Award for Institutional Achievement for implementing a barcode point-of-care (BPOC) system for neonatal and pediatric care. The award recognized the culmination of a concerted effort by Children's Minnesota to improve the safety of IV medication administration to pediatric patients.

The week, the Wall Street Journal published an article examining the per-person cost of health care by state in the United States. The data, from 2009 (latest data available), showed that health care spending averaged $6,815 per person. However, the costs vary widely from state to state, ranging from more than $10,000 per person in Washington, D.C., to just over $5,000 per person in Utah.
