The offseason is here for Major League Soccer, as the Los Angeles Galaxy won MLS Cup earlier this month. However, the offseason will bring no rest for the weary as MLS prepares for its yearly medical meetings. At the January meetings in Fort Lauderdale, athletic trainers and team physicians from the 19 North American clubs meet to prioritize goals and action items for the following campaign.

The ability to realize the goals I mentioned in my previous post by engaging and providing health care services, particularly for behavioral health populations, is contingent on improved accuracy in our ability to predict which populations are most ‘at-risk.’ Through a collaborative effort we will be better positioned to identify and stratify populations based on the risks, needs, and attributes that individuals might possess by mining and analyzing real-time data accessible through Cerner Behavioral Health.

Earlier this year, Salvatore Iaconesi was diagnosed with brain cancer. As he writes at CNN.com, Iaconesi, in a effort to help find the best "cure" possible, published his clinical records online in an effort to make his digital information "...available on the Internet, in formats that would allow people of multiple cultures, skills, professions and inclinations to access, use, recombine and redistribute it."

The HIT Policy Committee recently published its recommendations on Meaningful Use Stage 3 rules. Among the recommendations are new measures and threshold increases from Stage 2. The committee also recommended removing some measures from Stage 3.
